Advent Calendar

Ready to order? Head over to our Etsy Shop!

The Heart Felt Truths Advent Calendar is a felt display that completes a nativity scene over the period of 25 days. As your family counts down to Christmas, a new piece will be added to the display that corresponds with part of a retelling of the Christmas story. As your children re-read the past portions of the story each day they will begin to memorize the story and the small passages of Scripture that are included in it.

This calendar is very similar in concept to Noel Piper’s “Noel Calendar.” If you are familiar with the Noel Calendar, you will find the story is different and that the materials are obviously very different, but the concept is the same. All ages will enjoy this activity but it is especially great for establishing Christ-Centered Christmas traditions for Christian families with toddlers, preschoolers and young school age children.

Below are the FREE patterns and instructions for designing your own felt Advent Calendar. If you are interested in ordering a felt advent calendar that has been completed or ordering a DIY Kit (complete with instructions, pre-sewn backdrop, patterns, and all necessary felt) , please visit our Etsy Shop to order. We can also do a variety of custom orders such as large felt displays for churches, custom colors, or custom DIY packets for women’s group activities.  We have calendars for sale throughout the year in various background colors.

    • You are welcome! I spent a year trying to find something like the Noel Calendar to purchase as well! Although this is a little different I think you will really enjoy it! After you make it, I would greatly appreciate any feedback or adjustments! ENJOY!

      • I finally finished my calendar! So excited to use it with our toddler this year. Ill email a pic of our finished project. Thank you again so much for putting this resource out there! Hoping to make the Easter banner this spring!! 🙂

  3. I really love this. I’m going to try and make it for my grandson. I think I’m going to try and make it out of foam sheets and put magnets on the back.

  5. Thank you for posting this pattern. I grew up with a felt Advent calendar and now that I have a son want to share the tradition with him. I have spent a lot of time the past few days looking for a pattern for a religious advent calendar. This is perfect! I am excited to make it! Thanks!

  7. Hi, I’ve been slowly making this and the directions are kind of confusing. Some of the numbers were wrong, I think for the manger and then the angels were listed a few times. Just thought I’d let you know so you can correct it 🙂 Super excited to finish mine.

  8. A thousand thank yous!!! I have been trying to come up with my own for a long time and haven’t ever finished… now I will actually get this done before the holidays. Really, thank you so much!

  9. Finally finished mine. How do you get your pieces to stay once it’s hanging on the wall all month? I thought I’d maybe put small velcro pieces on the backs… I don’t want to lose any of the pieces.

    • Dear Kim,
The felt pieces should stick to the calendar. Have you tried to hang it yet? Sometimes if little hands walk by and touch the calendar they will fall off so it might be advantageous to hang it out of reach. Last year my one-year-old kept knocking pieces off and we had a donkey wind up missing a time or two 🙂 but he always found his way home. A friend of mine decided to velcro hers this year. You can buy small velcro pieces at the craft store that are adhesive on both sides and sometimes you can cut them in half to make them go farther on the small pieces. You can also cut 3M photo mounting strips into small pieces but I think the velcro would be cheaper. Happy Thanksgiving!

  14. Thank you for making this! It’s beautiful! I, too, share your love for the Advent Calendar that Noel Piper talks about in Treasuring God in Our Traditions! When I first read the book in 2004, they were still selling it, so I have one. However, I recommend it to people all the time, but it’s been sad for me that my friends can’t buy it for their families. I will definitely send people your way! 🙂 I actually just wrote a post about our 2 favorite Advent Calendars on my blog, and I included a link to your blog and your ETSY shop. Hopefully, you’ll have some customers coming your way. 🙂 Glad to know that you have this! I love your stuff! 🙂 God bless!

  23. I didn’t have time to make the felt one this year or get it ordered in time to start the season, so this year we are using the text with our 2 year old’s Little People Nativity. I am loving it! And she is enjoying spending time playing with it. I hear her say “Go on a long trip” when she’s playing with the set and she likes to call baby Jesus on the phone. =) SOO going to look at doing your Easter set to teach both our girls about Christ, his death and resurrection. Thank you for writing the story!

    • I am so glad your little one is learning and enjoying it so much! Your comment reminds me of a Mahalia Jackson’s recording of Elijah Rock….she says “he put a telephone in my heart and I can call God anytime! Hallelujah!”
